Cisco certification is structured as an explicit ladder. CCNA sits at associate level as a single broad exam; professional-level CCNP tracks require a core exam plus one concentration exam of your choice; and expert-level CCIE adds an eight-hour hands-on lab on top of the same core exam.
The core exam is the hinge of the whole system. Passing 350-401 ENCOR, for example, counts toward CCNP Enterprise, qualifies you to book the CCIE Enterprise lab, and recertifies existing credentials at the same time.
Exams mix multiple choice with drag-and-drop and, on several tracks, live simulations where you configure devices in an emulated environment. Cisco credentials are valid for three years and are renewed either by exam or through continuing education credits.
