   This has always confused me. I thought negative testing was seeing if the returned value was something other than what was expected such as in B where passing null should return null not true. It seems that negative testing is about seeing if the code handles the bad input correctly, and return null in this case, so the assert should be C to make sure that it handles improper data correctly.
